Beyond Comanche Trace: Exploring the Hill Country

Experience the Solar Eclipse

Make sure to put April 8th on your calendars, as areas of the Hill Country will be able to witness a total solar eclipse. The moon will be moving squarely between the Earth and the sun during this unusual astronomical occurrence, creating a brief period of darkness over the area for 4 minutes and 26 seconds. This is sure to be an amazing sight, check the Kerrville Convention & Visitor Bureau’s Website for more information regarding events, accommodations and viewing sites.

Mountain Biking and Hiking at Schreiner Park

Lace-up your hiking boots or hop on your mountain bike and explore the stunning trails at Kerrville’s Schreiner Park. The park offers a range of routes appropriate for all ability levels, from simple nature walks to strenuous technical trails, all spread across more than 500 acres of untamed terrain. Book a day-pass for Guadalupe River access as well as kayak and canoe rentals and picnic areas with standing grills throughout.

Willow City Loop Wildflower Drive

As the wildflowers begin to bloom, embark on a scenic drive along the Willow City Loop. This 13-mile stretch of road winds through the rolling hills, offering breathtaking views of the vibrant bluebonnets and other native flora that paint the landscape in a kaleidoscope of colors. Stop along the way to capture the perfect photo or simply soak in the natural beauty of the Hill Country in full bloom. While you’re out and about, don’t pass up a chance to hike Enchanted Rock, just 18 miles north of Fredericksburg on Ranch Road 965.

Turtle Creek Winery’s New Tasting Room

Wine enthusiasts rejoice! Turtle Creek Winery has opened a brand-new tasting room at their vineyard, offering visitors a chance to sip on their award-winning wines while taking in the picturesque surroundings. Savor the flavors of the Hill Country while spending a leisurely afternoon amidst the olive groves and vines. Throughout the tasting process, the experienced team will lead you through the history of each vintage and offer suggested pairings.
